The Station — Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall (R16)

The station name says everything and yet misleads slightly — "Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall" is the official RTA station name, but the Burj Khalifa itself is not at the station exit. The station is connected to The Dubai Mall via a covered, air-conditioned Link Bridge walkway — and Burj Khalifa stands at the far end of the mall, approximately 1.3 km from the station entrance. The walk through the mall is entirely indoors and air-conditioned — critical in Dubai's summer heat — and takes 12–15 minutes at a comfortable pace.

This is the correct and only practical metro route to Burj Khalifa. There is no closer station. The station is on the Red Line only — no Green Line service. Trains run every 3–5 minutes during peak hours, making access from any part of the city fast and frequent.

Exact Walking Route from Metro to Burj Khalifa – Step by Step

  1. 1
Exit fare gates at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station (R16). Do not leave the station building — stay inside.
  2. 2
Follow signs for "Dubai Mall Link Bridge" — green signs visible from the station exit. The link bridge is a wide, air-conditioned covered walkway above ground level.
  3. 3
Walk the Link Bridge — approximately 5 minutes, completely covered and air-conditioned. Bridge deposits you into Dubai Mall Lower Ground Floor (fashion district area).
  4. 4
Inside Dubai Mall, follow "Burj Khalifa" or "At The Top" directional signs — blue and white signs throughout the mall. Head toward the Grand Atrium area.
  5. 5
Reach the Ground Floor, Burj Khalifa Boulevard exit — large glass doors opening onto the outdoor plaza with the Burj Khalifa directly ahead and Dubai Fountain below.
  6. 6
Burj Khalifa entrance for "At The Top" observation deck is at the base of the tower — follow the outdoor signs once on the plaza. Pre-book tickets online to skip queues.
Orientation tip inside Dubai Mall: The mall is very large — if you lose the signs, ask any mall information desk or security staff for "Burj Khalifa entrance." They are stationed throughout. Alternatively, Google Maps indoor navigation works inside Dubai Mall and guides you to the Burj Khalifa exit accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions — Metro to Burj Khalifa

Is the walk from metro to Burj Khalifa air-conditioned?
Yes — almost entirely. The Link Bridge from the metro station to Dubai Mall is fully enclosed and air-conditioned. The walk through Dubai Mall is obviously indoors and air-conditioned. The only outdoor section is the final 2–3 minutes across the Burj Khalifa plaza from the mall exit to the tower entrance — unavoidable but short. In summer heat, this makes the metro route far more comfortable than a taxi drop-off at the tower base.
How long does it take from the metro station to Burj Khalifa?
Allow 15 minutes from tapping out at the metro station to reaching the Burj Khalifa tower entrance: 5 minutes on the Link Bridge, 7–8 minutes walking through Dubai Mall following signs, 2–3 minutes across the outdoor plaza to the tower base. Slower if the mall is crowded on weekends or holidays.
What metro station do I get off for Burj Khalifa?
Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, code R16, on the Red Line. It is the only metro station serving Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall. Do not confuse with Business Bay (R17) or Emirates Towers (R14) — both are on the same Red Line but are further from the tower. R16 is the correct and closest stop.
Should I take metro or taxi to Burj Khalifa?
Metro is almost always better — AED 4–5 vs AED 25–60 taxi depending on origin. The 15-minute walk through Dubai Mall is air-conditioned and passes through the world's largest mall — many visitors enjoy it as part of the experience. The only reason to choose taxi is if you have heavy luggage, mobility limitations, or are arriving late at night after metro closes.
