How to Use Your NOL Card on Dubai Tram

Dubai Tram uses the same NFC tap-in/tap-out system as Dubai Metro — the process is identical. Tap your NOL card on the reader at the tram stop platform before boarding (unlike a bus where you tap on entry). Tap out at the reader at your destination stop when you exit. The AED 3 flat fare is deducted automatically regardless of how many stops you travel — one stop or end-to-end costs the same.

One important difference from metro: tram journeys are not counted toward the AED 18 daily metro cap. Tram fares are tracked separately. If you have already hit the metro daily cap, you will still be charged AED 3 for a tram journey. This distinction matters for heavy daily users combining metro and tram in the same commute.

  1. 1
Arrive at tram stop — tram stops are clearly marked platforms along Al Sufouh Road with shelter, seating, and real-time arrival displays.
  2. 2
Tap NOL card on the platform reader before the tram arrives — readers are at the platform entry gates. AED 3 deducted on tap-in.
  3. 3
Board the tram — air-conditioned, modern low-floor trams with priority seating for women, elderly and people of determination.
  4. 4
Tap out at destination stop on exit. Failing to tap out triggers a penalty fare — always tap out on exit.

Connecting from Dubai Metro to Dubai Tram

Three metro stations connect to the tram corridor — Dubai Marina (R27), DMCC (R26), and Dubai Internet City (R22). Each connection works differently in terms of physical layout, but all use the same NOL card. Metro and tram are separate fare systems — a tram journey is always a new AED 3 charge regardless of your metro journey before it.

🔄 Dubai Marina (R27 ↔ T6)

Best connection for JBR and Palm Jumeirah. Exit Dubai Marina metro station and follow signs for Dubai Tram — the tram stop is a short covered walk from the metro exit. Tap in at tram platform reader. AED 3 charged separately from metro fare.

Use this for: JBR 1 (T4), JBR 2 (T5), Palm Gateway (T3), Al Sufouh (T1/T2)

🔄 DMCC (R26 ↔ T7)

Best connection for JLT and Media City direction. DMCC metro station is a short walk to the DMCC tram stop. Good for JLT cluster access and continuing north toward Media City and Knowledge Village.

Use this for: Media City (T9), Knowledge Village (T10), Dubai Internet City (T11)

🔄 Dubai Internet City (R22 ↔ T11)

Northern tram terminus adjacent to DIC metro. The tram's northern terminus T11 is directly beside the Dubai Internet City metro station. If travelling from Downtown toward Media City or Knowledge Village, this end of the tram line may be more convenient.

Use this for: Knowledge Village (T10), Media City (T9), working the tram southward

Frequently Asked Questions — Dubai Tram NOL Card

Does NOL card work on Dubai Tram?
Yes — the same NOL card you use for Dubai Metro works on Dubai Tram with identical tap-in/tap-out gates at every tram stop. Silver and Gold cards both pay AED 3 flat fare per tram journey regardless of distance. Student cards pay AED 1.50. No separate tram ticket is needed — just tap your NOL card.
How much is Dubai Tram with NOL card?
AED 3.00 flat fare for Silver and Gold NOL card holders — same price whether you travel 1 stop or all 11 stops end-to-end. Student card: AED 1.50. Blue card: AED 0.75. Red Ticket: AED 3.00 + AED 2 card fee. The tram fare is separate from metro fares and is not included in the AED 18 daily cap.
How do I get from Dubai Metro to Dubai Tram?
The main metro-tram connection is at Dubai Marina station (R27 metro ↔ T6 tram). Exit Dubai Marina metro, follow signs for the tram stop — a short covered walk. Tap in at the tram platform reader (AED 3 charged). Also connected at DMCC (R26 ↔ T7) and Dubai Internet City (R22 ↔ T11).
Is Dubai Tram included in the NOL card daily cap?
No. Dubai Tram journeys are not counted toward the AED 18 Silver daily cap — that cap covers metro and bus only. Tram fares are charged separately. However, the AED 350 monthly pass covers unlimited tram journeys alongside metro and bus — making the monthly pass the best value option for regular tram users.
Which tram stop for JBR?
JBR 1 (T4) for the southern end of The Walk and JBR beach. JBR 2 (T5) for the central Walk area and The Beach mall. Both are served by the same Dubai Tram — board at Dubai Marina tram stop (T6, connected to metro R27) and ride 1–2 stops toward Al Sufouh. Fare: AED 3.
How do I get to Palm Jumeirah by Dubai Tram?
Take the tram to Palm Gateway stop (T3) — located at the entrance to Palm Jumeirah island. From there, transfer to the Palm Monorail (separate fare, not NOL card) which runs from the gateway to Atlantis at the far end of the Palm trunk and fronds. Alternatively, take a taxi from Palm Gateway into the Palm Jumeirah community.
