Lost NOL Card? – How to Block, Replace & Recover Your Balance
Step-by-step guide for a lost or stolen NOL card — how to block it instantly to protect your balance, apply for a replacement online or in person, what the replacement costs, how long it takes, and whether your balance is safe. Act fast — registered cards are fully protected once blocked.
① Block immediately: nol.ae → My NOL Cards → Block Card (takes 30 seconds)
② Or block via NOL Pay app: Tap card → Card Options → Block Card
③ Or call RTA: 800 9090 (24 hours) — they can block manually
④ Apply for replacement: nol.ae (3–5 day delivery) or RTA centre (same day)
⑤ Pay AED 25 — full balance transfers to new card automatically
⚠️ Unregistered card? Call 800 9090 immediately — balance recovery not guaranteed without registration.
First 5 Minutes After Losing Your NOL Card
Speed matters — every minute your card is unblocked, someone who finds or steals it can tap it on any RTA fare gate and drain your balance. A NOL card with AED 300 credit can be emptied in under 10 minutes if someone boards multiple metro or bus routes. The fastest block method is the NOL Pay app — open it, tap your card, hit Block Card, and it is deactivated instantly before you even finish reading this page.
-
1Open NOL Pay app (fastest) → tap your card panel → tap "Block Card" → confirm. Card deactivated in seconds.
-
2Alternatively: Log in to nol.ae → My NOL Cards → select card → "Block Card". Same instant effect.
-
3No app or internet? Call 800 9090 (RTA helpline, 24 hours) — provide your card number (found on your nol.ae account or registration email) and they block it manually.
-
4Note your balance before blocking — visible on nol.ae or app. Screenshot it. This confirms the amount that should transfer to your replacement card.
Is Your NOL Card Balance Safe After Loss?
The answer depends on whether your card is registered — this is the single most important factor in balance recovery.
✅ Registered Card
Balance is fully protected once the card is blocked. RTA's system holds your balance independently of the physical card — it cannot be used after blocking and transfers automatically to your replacement card. Even if the thief used some credit before you blocked it, the remaining balance is 100% recoverable.
⚠️ Unregistered Card
Balance recovery is not guaranteed. Without registration, RTA cannot definitively link the card to you. Call 800 9090 immediately with any card details you have — purchase receipt, card number if noted. RTA may be able to trace and block it, but recovery depends on card condition and transaction history.

Lost an Unregistered NOL Card – Your Options
Without registration, RTA has no record linking the card to you personally. However, there is still one avenue worth attempting: visit an RTA Customer Happiness Centre with your Emirates ID and any evidence of the card — purchase receipt, approximate purchase date and location, last used station and amount. RTA can attempt to trace the card's transaction history against fare gate tap records to verify ownership. Success is not guaranteed but has worked for users who had recent distinctive journey records.
If the card cannot be traced or has already been used by someone else and emptied, the balance is unfortunately unrecoverable without registration. The AED 25 replacement fee still applies for the new physical card — you simply start fresh with zero balance on the replacement. This is exactly why registering your NOL card immediately after purchase is the single most important account action a card holder can take.
