Lines intersect at Union and BurJuman stations. A third line — the Blue Line (14 stations, 30 km) — is under construction and opens 9 September 2029. Dubai Metro Network Overview

The Dubai Metro, operated by RTA Dubai, launched on 9 September 2009 and has grown into the world's longest fully automated driverless metro network. With 89.6 kilometres of track and 55 stations, it connects Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, DIFC, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, Expo City, and the historic Deira and Bur Dubai districts under one unified, climate-controlled system. All trains run on elevated or underground tracks — entirely grade-separated from road traffic.

Every Dubai Metro station accepts only the NOL card for fare payment — no cash at fare gates. The network uses a zone-based fare system divided into three zones (T1, T2, T3), with a daily fare cap of AED 18 for Silver Class and AED 36 for Gold Class, covering unlimited journeys across the full combined RTA network (metro, bus, and tram) on a single day.

Dubai Metro Fare Zones – How They Work

Dubai Metro uses a three-zone fare system (T1, T2, T3). The fare charged to your NOL card depends on how many zones your journey crosses — not the number of stops. Zone T1 covers the inner Deira and Bur Dubai districts. Zone T2 covers Sheikh Zayed Road and key commercial corridors. Zone T3 covers the outer western stations from Discovery Gardens to UAE Exchange. Most Green Line stations fall entirely within Zone T1.

Journey Zones Silver Card Fare Gold Card Fare Daily Cap (Silver) Daily Cap (Gold)
1 Zone (T1 only) AED 3.00 AED 6.00 AED 18.00 AED 36.00
2 Zones (T1–T2) AED 5.00 AED 10.00
3 Zones (T1–T3) AED 7.50 AED 14.50
📌 The daily fare cap applies across all RTA modes combined — metro + bus + tram. Once you reach the cap, all further journeys that day are free. Children under 5 years and people of determination travel free on Dubai Metro.

Dubai Metro Blue Line – Construction Update

The Dubai Metro Blue Line is RTA's largest infrastructure project currently under active construction. Announced as part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the Blue Line will add 14 new stations across a 30-kilometre elevated and underground corridor, connecting new communities to the existing metro network via two interchange points with the Red Line. Construction began in June 2025 and reached 10% completion by November 2025.

The Blue Line is scheduled to open on 9 September 2029 — precisely marking the Dubai Metro's 20th anniversary. Once operational, the total Dubai Metro network will span 119.6 kilometres with 69 stations, extending coverage to communities currently underserved by metro including Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Academic City, Mirdif, Warsan, and Dubai Creek Harbour.

NOL Card – Required for All Dubai Metro Travel

The NOL card is the only accepted payment method at all Dubai Metro fare gates. Cash, contactless bank cards, and mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay) are not accepted directly at metro fare gates — you must have a NOL card loaded with sufficient balance. The minimum balance to enter a metro station is AED 7.50 (sufficient for a 3-zone Silver journey). Fare gates reject NOL cards with insufficient balance or an expired card.

🔴 For Tourists

Buy a Red NOL Ticket (single trip from AED 2) or Silver NOL Card (AED 25 with AED 20 credit) at any metro station TVM. No registration needed.

🟢 For Residents

Use a Personal NOL Card registered to your Emirates ID. Buy a monthly pass for unlimited travel at a fixed cost — best value for daily commuters.

Check your NOL card balance before every metro journey at nol.ae or via the NOL Pay app to avoid fare gate rejections.
