NOL Card Recharge Online – All Methods, Steps & Tips
Everything you need to recharge your RTA NOL card online — step-by-step guide for nol.ae and NOL Pay app, minimum and maximum recharge amounts, all alternative recharge methods, and answers to the most common recharge questions how to check NOL card balance .
NOL Card Recharge vs Top Up – Is There a Difference?
The terms NOL card recharge and NOL card top up mean exactly the same thing — adding credit to your NOL card's prepaid balance. RTA Dubai uses both terms interchangeably across its platforms: nol.ae labels the action "Top Up", while many users and third-party references use "recharge" — particularly users from South Asia where mobile recharge terminology is common. The process, channels, limits, and result are completely identical regardless of which term you use.
Method 1: Recharge NOL Card Online via nol.ae
The nol.ae portal is the primary official channel for online NOL card recharge. It requires a registered account linked to your NOL card and a valid debit or credit card for payment. The recharge is processed instantly — balance is available at the very next tap.
-
1Open nol.ae and click "Sign In". Enter your registered email and password.
-
2Go to "My NOL Cards" from the dashboard. Your linked NOL cards appear with current balances shown.
-
3Click "Top Up" next to the card you want to recharge.
-
4Enter recharge amount — minimum AED 10, maximum AED 500 (or up to your remaining balance capacity).
-
5Enter payment details — debit or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex accepted). Save card for faster future recharges.
-
6Confirm payment. Balance is added instantly — verify the updated balance on your dashboard immediately after payment.
Method 2: Recharge NOL Card via NOL Pay App
The NOL Pay app is the fastest mobile recharge channel — supporting Apple Pay, Google Pay, and saved debit/credit cards for one-tap recharge without entering card details each time. It also supports setting an auto-recharge threshold — when your balance drops below a set amount, the app automatically recharges by a pre-set amount using your saved payment method.
-
1Open NOL Pay app and sign in.
-
2Tap your NOL card on the home dashboard to open card details.
-
3Tap "Top Up" and select your recharge amount.
-
4Pay via Apple Pay, Google Pay, or saved card. Payment processes in seconds.
-
5Balance updates instantly on the app home screen. Card is ready to use immediately.
Set Up Auto-Recharge on NOL Pay
Go to your card settings in NOL Pay → select "Auto Top Up" → set a trigger balance threshold (e.g. AED 20) and a recharge amount (e.g. AED 100) → save with your preferred payment method. When your NOL card balance falls below AED 20 after any journey, the app automatically recharges AED 100 — eliminating the risk of ever running out of balance at a fare gate.

NOL Card Recharge Limits – Min, Max & Balance Cap
RTA Dubai enforces minimum and maximum limits on NOL card recharges to maintain the prepaid card system's financial controls. Understanding these limits prevents failed transactions and ensures you always have the right amount loaded for your travel needs.
💳 Minimum Recharge
AED 10 is the minimum single recharge amount via nol.ae or NOL Pay app. Metro TVMs may accept lower denomination cash additions.
💰 Maximum Single Recharge
AED 500 is the maximum single transaction recharge. Multiple recharges can be made but total card balance cannot exceed AED 500.
🏦 Maximum Card Balance
Total NOL card balance cannot exceed AED 500 at any time. Recharge attempts that would push balance above AED 500 are blocked by the system.
⚡ Minimum Travel Balance
Keep at least AED 7.50 on the card to board any RTA transport. Below this threshold fare gates reject the tap even with a valid card.
How to Recharge NOL Card Without Online Registration
If you do not have a registered nol.ae account — or prefer not to recharge online — the Dubai Metro Ticket Vending Machines allow instant NOL card recharge with no account, no login, and no smartphone required. Simply tap your NOL card on the TVM card reader, select "Top Up", choose your amount, and pay with cash or bank card. The balance is added instantly and the card is usable at the next gate tap — a seamless offline recharge experience available at all 55 metro stations across both lines.
NOL Card Recharge Not Showing – How to Fix
Online NOL card recharges via nol.ae and NOL Pay are processed instantly at the server level — your account balance updates immediately after payment. However, the balance stored on the physical card's NFC chip updates only on the next physical tap at an RTA reader (metro gate, bus reader, TVM). This means your app or nol.ae may show the recharged balance while the card itself still shows the old balance until the next tap — this is normal and not a recharge failure.
✅ Online shows new balance but card tap rejected
Tap the card at a metro TVM first — this syncs the chip. The gate will accept it from the next tap onward.
✅ Recharge paid but balance not updating on nol.ae
Wait 5 minutes and refresh. If still not updated after 30 minutes, call RTA at 800 9090 with your payment reference number.
